Hanging Out With Friends
One of our favorite things about Budapest was meeting up with an old friend of mine. Michael Klein and I practically grew up on the same block and he has been working in Budapest for the last 4 years with his wife Marisa. We hung out with them the three nights we were in town.
Our last night we enjoyed another amazing cultural experience as we attended a poetry reading featuring Marisa. She is a writer for a Budapest publication and has been writing poetry since she was little. I can’t say that I have ever been into poetry, but I was really impressed. It was very entertaining and engaging and we walked away with a whole new appreciation and interest in this art form. Marisa even has a poetry book that she has published and a website. We highly recommend that you check it out. Our two favorite poems that she presented were “Synonyms” and “Lone Star Slumber” (if you are a Texan, you’ll enjoy the latter)
American Football! Oh, it has been too long. We haven’t been able to follow sports really at all while we have been traveling. One of Haley and I’s favorite things to do together is watch football. Well, we were pretty excited about watching the Alabama – Auburn game with Michael and Marisa. We went with them and a few of their friends to an American-style restaurant called Legends. The rivalry between these two teams runs deep in the state of Alabama. Since my dad went to Alabama I grew up rooting for the roll tide. Auburn had not lost a game all season and are looking like they will go to the national championship so a lot was on the line. Alabama pulled out to a very exciting lead of 24-0 in the first half, but fell apart in the second half and let Auburn come back to win 27-28. Boo! Even worse, their quarterback got injured.
